Nancy Thorson, LCSW

Nancy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked with adolescents and adults throughout her professional life. She has worked in acute settings like psychiatric hospitals, jails, and group homes, as well as in community-based prevention programs.

Nancy received her Bachelor's degree from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington and her Master's in Social Work from the University of Minnesota (the other U of M) in St. Paul.

"Every therapist has the necessary training to be licensed for the work, but the biggest predictor of success for clients is the quality of the relationship between the client and clinician. Before I get started with a new client, I meet with them to make sure it's a good connection. I could be a great clinician for someone else, but if you don't like me or don't connect with me, I won't do you much good. If we make a solid connection, we will continue. Otherwise, I'll give you names of other therapists who might be a better fit."

Nancy has experience with a variety of treatment modalities. She has completed Basic EMDR and Emotionally Focused Therapy training. She has special interest and training in the area of dissociative disorders and PTSD.

Nancy believes in the transforming power of relationships, and comes at therapy from a place of love and strength, believing that there is hope- no matter how dark and frightening things have become.
