Nona Stockton, LCPC

Nona Stockton is a Licensed Certified Professional Counselor (LCPC) with more than 25 years of experience working with adolescents both as an equine instructor and as a therapist.  Her background includes an M.S. in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from Montana State University, Billings, with an undergraduate degree in Animal Science and Pre-Vet from Auburn University.  These two educational paths dovetail perfectly to provide clients with Animal Assisted Mental Health Therapy, and especially Equine Assisted Mental Health Therapy.

Nona spent more than 16 years as an equestrian instructor and coach before coming to Montana’s Rocky Mountain College to develop one of the only Therapeutic Riding Instructor Programs in the country.  Students come to the program from all over the world to prepare for careers as Equine Specialists on Equine Facilitated Mental Health teams.

More recently, Nona worked as the Equine Therapy Program director at Yellowstone Boys and Girl’s Ranch in Billings, Mont., a multi-service residential treatment center providing mental health programs and services to emotionally disturbed children and adolescents.  Nona worked with children, teens, and their families in Animal Assisted Therapy sessions. Before that she was the Clinical Therapist at a group home in Lewistown, Mont.

Nona specializes in helping youth and their families come together around common goals for a happier, healthier future.  She also works with women in transitions such as divorce, professional changes, illness, or longing for a more meaningful, satisfying life journey.

Sessions can be held in a conventional office setting, or if recommended and desired, animal-assisted sessions can be held either in-office, with smaller animals, or in a ranch environment for equine-assisted therapy.

Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicaid, private pay, and Visa or Mastercard accepted.
