Tim Nordstrom, LCSW

Tim

After receiving his bachelor's degree from Rocky Mountain college in 1991, Tim helped to start a day-treatment facility for chronically mentally ill homeless individuals. Working with severe, acute mental illness inspired him to attend Colorado State University and receive his Masters in Social Work (1995) and his license in clinical social work (LCSW) soon thereafter.  Since graduation, Tim has worked as a home-healthcare worker in rural and urban areas in and around Nashville, Tennessee. He served as a school social worker in Billings School District 2 as well as Red Lodge Public Schools where he also coached high school and junior high basketball.  As a Certified Case Manager for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana, Tim was adept at brokering services for patients at the right time to the right specialty. As a behaviorist for St. Vincent’s busy internal medicine practice, Tim was able to focus on symptom management, utilizing the Collaborative Care model.  Using mainly CBT and trauma-focused CBT treatment modalities, he is also trained in DBT, neurologic music therapy, ACT, and problem-solving therapy among others.

Tim also has a passion for music, songwriting, and performance. He has used his Cognitive Behavioral Therapy informed songwriting therapy with groups at the Type 1 Montana Youth Diabetes Alliance camp, K-12 students, hospitals and long-term care facilities, as well as individually in his private practice.  Currently, he is pursuing training focusing on elderly and special needs patients with his golden retriever therapy dog Hudson.
